HOW TO SUPPORT NSA
NSA memberships run by calendar year. So please considering renewing your membership or becoming a new member. As a NSA 2025 member you will be publicly showing your support for our mission “to preserve and protect Nantucket’s harbors, water quality, and shellfish fisheries”. You will also receive priority access to buy tickets to NSA shellfish celebration events (which tend to sell out quickly). Our membership has grown from 5 members in 2003 to over 740 members today, which we are super proud of.
This year many of our members and partners have offered their homes or business locations to host a NSA fundraising event. These include wine & oyster parties, beach bonfire parties, as well as full on farm to table dinners. If you are willing and able to host an NSA fundraising event of any kind we would love to hear from you. As we grow our work, we need more support from our membership and believe there is no better ambassador than our members.
We are able to pursue our mission because of generous financial gifts that ensure the longevity and stability of our 501(c)(3). By making a gift you are helping us continue to make a positive impact today as well as investing in the long term health of Nantucket’s waters. We welcome credit card, cash, check, stock, and estate planning gifts of all kinds and thank you in advance for considering NSA.
In 2025, we are growing two primary programs: NSA Youth Education and NSA Harbor Initiatives. With youth education we are working with all three schools on island in addition the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club to educate and inspire a diverse group of island youth about our island’s prized shellfish. In our harbor initiatives we are cleaning up sunken debris from the harbor seabed as well as supporting water quality & eelgrass research to promote a healthier home for our shellfish.

As NSA enters its 23rd year as a Nantucket based non-profit, we are planning for the next quarter century by building an endowment to support future NSA projects. If you’d like to discuss specific opportunities and ways to make a legacy gift please reach out. We greatly appreciate you considering
The strength of the NSA impact is determined by the collaborations and partnerships we have with businesses that share in our mission and values. We are proud of each one of our business partners as well as the partner network (family) that we have built at NSA. All NSA events take a lot of work to host and we heavily rely on volunteers to help us at each one. We feel fortunate to have a strong partnership with Cisco Brewers where we host the NSA Shellfish Trilogy which includes NSA Scallopalooza (April), NSA OysterFest (June), and NSA Clam Jam (November). Every October we host Scallopers Ball at and with our partners the Nantucket Yacht Club. If you’d like to volunteer please don’t hesitate to reach out.
WHY SUPPORT NSA
We are focused on inspiring and educating our island’s youth on the beauty, importance, and sustainability of Nantucket shellfish.
Each year NSA has awarded grants to commercial shellfishermen and Nantucket Oyster farmers that request assistance.
We are focused on protecting and preserving Nantucket’s shellfish fisheries. The Bay Scallop, Quahog, and Oyster.
Each year NSA grants scholarships to Nantucket High School graduates that are continuing their studies in marine, maritime, shellfish, and / or environmental sustainability focused fields. With your financial support we will be able to continue this and hopefully increase the amounts and students that receive NSA scholarships.
