NANTUCKET SHELLFISH ASSOCIATION

Support Nantucket Shellfish While Connecting Your Business With the Island Community

Each year we host four ticketed events that bring our community together to celebrate Nantucket Shellfish.

Each event attracts a large audience of Nantucket residents, seasonal visitors, and local businesses who care deeply about the health of our harbors and our island’s prized shellfisheries.

This year we are pleased to offer three ways for businesses to participate in NSA events and align their brand with the NSA community before, during, and after the events.

Event Sponsors and Event Supporters will receive ticket(s) to the specific event they support as a thank you for their financial contribution.

NSA Partners will receive tickets to all four ticketed events as a thank you for their financial contribution.

Please reach out to us with any questions so we can determine how your business can best support and align with NSA.

NSA Shellfish Celebration Events include:

• NSA Scallopalooza celebrates the end of the Nantucket Bay scallop season in April.

• NSA OysterFest celebrates Nantucket oysters grown by all five Nantucket farms in June.

• NSA Scallopers Ball celebrates the Nantucket Bay scallop season and has the longest history of our island events in October.

• NSA Clam Jam celebrates the Nantucket quahog and awards a C3 (Clam Chowder Champion) award to one island chef each year in November.

All financial contributions from businesses over $250 are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. NSA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and provides receipt of all donations but cannot provide advice on what is and what is not tax deductible.

WHO WE ARE

Nantucket Shellfish Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 2003 by a group of islanders who believed in protecting the sustainability of our island’s shellfisheries.

For over 20 years, NSA has built an organization on this belief by funding and collaborating research & education initiatives that aim to benefit the sustainability of Nantucket shellfish populations, water quality, and harbor health.

In the summer of 2024, NSA started a new chapter of growth building programs, events, and harbor health initiatives on top of the rock solid foundation. In 2025, we are expanding on this work even more!

WHAT WE DO

NSA is primarily focused on the following areas:

Running NSA programs that educate & inspire our island community (youth, adults, & families) about the sustainability of Nantucket’s shellfish, harbor, and water quality.

Taking the lead on NSA harbor health initiatives that range from Nantucket Bay Scallop seed stranding moves to Nantucket harbor debris cleanup.

Hosting NSA shellfish celebration events that highlight the beauty of our island’s Nantucket Oysters, Nantucket Quahogs, and our iconic wild Nantucket Bay Scallop.

Providing NSA grants & scholarships to students, researchers, shellfishermen, and organizations that share in our mission and request funding to carry out their work, studies, and harbor health related initiatives.

Collaborating with other like minded non-profits and organizations on water quality and harbor health related initiatives & projects.

WHY WE DO IT

The NSA mission is to “protect & preserve Nantucket’s harbors, water quality, and shellfish fisheries.

Simply put, we carry out our work because we care about the sustainability of Nantucket’s shellfisheries and the health of our harbors.

We want everyone in our community to enjoy our island’s prized shellfish and harbors, and at the same time protect them for future generations to enjoy as well.

NSA MISSION FOCUS AREAS

HARBOR TO FUTURE PROGRAM

The NSA Harbor to Future program started in the Fall of 2024 and has grown into a year round program focused on inspiring & educating Nantucket youth about the beauty of our island’s shellfish and the need to keep our harbor healthy.

The program has already reached over 100 youth, bringing them on or near the water for hands on experiences with shellfish and the waters that surround our island.

With four generous grants from Great Harbor Yacht Club Foundation, CFN Remain Fund, Nantucket Golf Club Foundation, and the SSF, our Harbor to Youth program has been able to collaborate with the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, the team from the Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery, and our partner Nantucket by Water.

In Fall 2025, this program will expand into the Nantucket schools to reach an even bigger + diverse youth population, getting youth into the water to dive for our iconic bay scallops, learn more about our island’s shellfisheries, and the need to focus on the sustainability of our harbor health.

Businesses that become an NSA Partner become aligned with the youth programs and harbor health initiatives that we run to benefit our harbors, shellfish, and island community.

HARBOR DEBRIS CLEAN UP

The NSA Harbor Debris Clean Up is an initiative that we launched in June 2005.

With a massive team effort, we have successfully removed over 3,500 pounds of sunken hazardous debris from Nantucket harbor that included fuel tanks, engine blocks, boat batteries, steel piping and various wiring.

We are now planning phase two of the Harbor Debris Clean Up and fundraising for comprehensive seabed mapping to get a clearer picture on where there is more sunken debris that needs to be removed.

This harbor initiative was brought to our attention by a veteran commercial Nantucket Bay Scalloper and has received more recognition than we ever expected since completing phase one.

Many members, donors, and island residents + visitors have contacted us to help with this initiative through financial contributions and volunteer support.

Businesses that sign on to become an NSA Partner will be able to align their identity with our work on this harbor health initiative.
