Support Nantucket Shellfish While Connecting Your Business With OUR Island Community

Each year, NSA hosts four ticketed events that bring our community together to celebrate Nantucket shellfish and the people, traditions, and beauty connected to them.

Each event attracts Nantucket residents, seasonal community members, visitors, and local businesses who care deeply about the health of our harbors and the future of our island’s prized shellfisheries.

This year, businesses can participate in three ways: as an NSA Partner, Event Sponsor, or Event Supporter. Each option provides an opportunity to support NSA’s mission while connecting your business with the NSA community before, during, and after our events.

Event Sponsors and Event Supporters receive ticket(s) to the specific event they support as a thank-you for their financial contribution.

NSA Partners receive tickets to all four ticketed events as a thank-you for their year-round financial support.

NSA’s FOUR SIGNATURE Shellfish Celebration Events:

NSA Scallopers Ball 26 celebrates the opening of Nantucket’s Bay scallop season each October and is NSA’s longest-running signature event.
NSA Clam Jam 26 celebrates the Nantucket quahog each November and awards the annual C3: Clam Chowder Champion title to one island chef.
NSA Scallopalooza 27 celebrates the conclusion of Nantucket’s commercial Bay scallop season each April.
NSA OysterFest 27 celebrates Nantucket oysters and brings together all five island oyster farms each June.

The Nantucket Shellfish Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions may be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. When applicable, the deductible portion of a contribution may be reduced by the fair market value of event tickets or other benefits received. NSA will provide appropriate written acknowledgment of contributions but cannot offer tax advice. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your contribution.

WHO WE ARE

The Nantucket Shellfish Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2003 by islanders committed to protecting Nantucket’s shellfisheries and the harbors that sustain them.

For more than two decades, NSA has supported research, education, and collaborative initiatives focused on shellfish sustainability, water quality, and harbor health.

Beginning in 2024, NSA entered a new period of growth, expanding its work through youth education, student scholarships, shellfish and research grants, harbor initiatives, community outreach, and four annual shellfish celebration events.

WHAT WE DO

NSA focuses its work in the following areas:

Programs & Education
Creating hands-on programs that educate and inspire Nantucket youth, adults, and families about shellfish, water quality, marine science, and harbor stewardship.

Harbor Initiatives
Leading direct-action projects, including the NSA Harbor Debris Clean Up Initiative, while supporting seed-stranding response efforts and other work that benefits Nantucket’s harbors and marine resources.

Shellfish Celebration Events
Hosting Scallopalooza, OysterFest, the Scallopers Ball, and Clam Jam & Chowder to celebrate Nantucket oysters, quahogs, Bay scallops, and the people and traditions connected to them.

Scholarships & Grants
Investing in Nantucket students, shellfishers, researchers, nonprofits, and organizations whose studies, projects, and initiatives advance NSA’s mission.

Community Collaboration
Working alongside schools, scientists, shellfishers, Town departments, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations on projects related to water quality, harbor health, education, and sustainable shellfisheries.

WHY WE DO IT

NSA’s mission is to protect and preserve Nantucket’s harbors, water quality, and shellfisheries.

We carry out this work because healthy harbors and thriving shellfisheries are essential to Nantucket’s environment, economy, traditions, and way of life.

Our goal is to ensure that everyone in our community can continue to experience and enjoy Nantucket’s harbors and prized shellfish while protecting them for future generations.

NSA MISSION FOCUS AREAS

HARBOR TO FUTURE PROGRAM

The NSA Harbor to Future program launched in the fall of 2024 and has grown into a year-round initiative that inspires and educates Nantucket youth about the beauty of our island's shellfish, the importance of healthy harbors, and the responsibility we all share in protecting them.

Since its launch, the program has engaged more than 150 students through over 43 hands-on sessions, bringing youth on and around the water to explore shellfish, marine science, water quality, and Nantucket's unique coastal environment.

Thanks to generous support from the Great Harbor Yacht Club Foundation, Community Foundation for Nantucket's ReMain Fund, Nantucket Golf Club Foundation, and the Sustainable Sport Foundation, Harbor to Future has partnered with the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery, Nantucket by Water, and other community organizations to provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

During the summer of 2026, Harbor to Future expanded into a 28-session summer program serving Nantucket middle school students through the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club. This fall, the program will continue its growth by expanding into Nantucket Public Schools, giving even more students the opportunity to learn about Nantucket's shellfisheries, experience the harbor firsthand, and develop a deeper appreciation for protecting our marine environment.

Businesses that become NSA Partners directly support Harbor to Future and other youth education and harbor health initiatives that help protect Nantucket's harbors, shellfisheries, and island community.

HARBOR DEBRIS CLEAN UP

The NSA Harbor Debris Clean Up Initiative was launched in 2025 after a veteran Nantucket Bay scalloper brought a long-standing concern to our attention: decades of hazardous debris resting on the floor of Nantucket Harbor.

Working alongside commercial fishermen, local businesses, nonprofit partners, volunteers, and the Town of Nantucket, NSA led the first phase of this initiative, successfully removing more than 3,500 pounds of submerged debris from the harbor, including fuel tanks, engine blocks, boat batteries, steel piping, wiring, and other hazardous materials that threatened the health of our marine environment.

The success of Phase One generated tremendous community support and regional recognition, demonstrating what can be accomplished when our island comes together around a shared goal.

NSA is now planning Phase Two, which will include comprehensive seabed mapping to identify additional submerged debris and help prioritize future cleanup efforts throughout Nantucket Harbor.
