NANTUCKET SHELLFISH ASSOCIATION

WHO WE ARE

Nantucket Shellfish Association was established as a 501(c) non-profit organization in 2003 by a group of islanders who believed in protecting the sustainability of our island’s shellfisheries.

For over 20 years, NSA has built an organization on this belief by funding and collaborating research & education initiatives that aim to benefit the sustainability of Nantucket shellfish populations, water quality, and harbor health.

In the summer of 2024, NSA started a new chapter of growth building on top of the rock solid foundation that the generations prior created.

WHAT WE DO

NSA is primarily focused on the following areas:

  • Running programs that educate & inspire our island community (youth, adults, & families) about the sustainability of Nantucket’s shellfish, harbor, and water quality.

  • Taking the lead on harbor health initiatives that range from Nantucket Bay Scallop seed stranding moves to Nantucket harbor debris cleanup.

  • Hosting shellfish celebration events that highlight the beauty of our island’s Nantucket Oysters, Nantucket Quahogs, and the iconic wild Nantucket Bay Scallop.

  • Collaborating on water quality and harbor health initiatives & projects with other like minded non-profits and organizations.

  • Providing grants & scholarships to students, researchesr, shellfishermen, and organizations that share in our mission and request funding to carry out their work, studies, and harbor health related initiatives.

WHY WE DO IT

The NSA mission is to “protect & preserve Nantucket’s harbors, water quality, and shellfish fisheries.”

Simply put, we carry out our work because we care about the sustainability of Nantucket’s shellfisheries. We want all in our community to enjoy our island’s prized shellfish and harbors, and at the same time protect them for future generations to enjoy as well.

BUSINESS PACKAGE TYPES

NSA PARTNER

NSA partners are businesses that wish to have relationship with our orgarnization.,

NSA Partner levels start with a minimum donation of $5,000 and include many benefits from NSA to the Partner over the course of the year.

NSA Partners will be publicly aligned with and promoted by NSA for a full year, not just one at one specific event or program.

NSA SPONSOR

NSA sponsors are financial underwriters to a specific NSA program or event.

NSA Sponsor levels start with a minimum donation of $1,500 to NSA and can change into a NSA Partner if a $5,000 total donation is made within the year.

NSA
DONOR

NSA donors (aka “donating businesses”) are businesses that make a financial or in-kind donation to NSA for a specific event, auction, program or initiative.

Benefits include public recognition of the donation at the event, on the NSA website, in the NSA annual report, and a in-kind donation letter from NSA.

All financial contributions from businesses over $250 are tax deductible to the extent of the law. NSA is a 501(3) non-profit organization
